Greenville Utilities (GUC) has been keeping an eye on the weather forecasts and is ready to respond as necessary. Crews have checked and positioned equipment and supplies to most efficiently restore power in case of any outages. As is the case every day and night, crews are on standby, ready to respond if needed.

The cold, stormy weather is a continuation of the winter weather that Pitt County has been experiencing for the past week and a good portion of December. Lower temperatures drive up energy usage and can result in higher bills and possibly frozen water pipes. There are many tips available to mitigate these issues on GUC’s website at guc.com.

GUC also has a text notification system to let customers know about power outages which may affect them around the clock. Customers must have a cell phone number registered on their GUC account in order to receive the texts.

To report electric outages, customers should use the online outage map at guc.com or call the Emergency Hotline at 1-855-SOS-2-GUC (1-855-767-2482). GUC is asking customers to please use the hotline and the website (instead of social media) to report outages as those are tied directly into GUC’s monitoring system and will get crews to customers more quickly. Social media is not monitored 24/7, so it may be hours before messages are seen.
