Today is the State of North Carolina’s Wastewater Professionals Appreciation Day, and we have a lot of Wastewater Professionals here at GUC! From our Wastewater Treatment Plant staff to our service crews, we have professionals working every day to protect public health and the environment. Wastewater collection/treatment is a 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week responsibility, and many are unaware of the critical role wastewater professionals play in public health response as they collect and submit wastewater samples for disease monitoring to help track public health threats. Join us behind the scenes with our residential Gas Systems Technicians. They have a versatile skill set that allows them to safely identify and repair natural gas leaks one day and coordinate line installations that expand services to meet coverage area demands the next. Their work directly supports new development in our community while also protecting the safety of our customers. With more than 22,600 residential customers and nearly 1,300 miles of pipeline, their day-to-day work is always changing, but their focus on safety, teamwork, and service never does. A snapshot of their day looks like this: • Installing residential gas service lines for new neighborhoods and home connections. • Responding to damaged or cut gas lines and emergency leak calls. • Coordinating with other utility departments and contractors to ensure safe installations. • Plowing and installing underground gas mains and service pipelines. • Expanding natural gas service to support new residential developments. Customer service is our top priority and we are here to help! We know that the cold temperatures in January and early February may result in higher than normal bills. Customers can request a payment extension if they are struggling, however there are stipulations to submitting requests and being approved for an extension. You can call Customer Service at 252-752-7166, and GUC will work with you to review your account and discuss options. You can also utilize your GUC Customer Portal at guc.com. You cannot request an extension until you receive your final notice letter. You also must make your extension request before the final notice due date. (opens in a new window)
