🎓 Help us congratulate our pre-apprentices on their upcoming high school graduations! Lineworker Pre-apprenctices Luke Warren and BJ Gardner will graduate from Ayden-Grifton High School and Farmville Central High School respectively. Wastewater Treatment Plant Pre-apprentices Jayden Robinson and Blake Monette will graduate from South Central High School and D. H. Conley High School respectively. Luke, BJ, Jayden, and Blake are part of the Tradesformers program where they had the unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a trade of interest, getting a great head start into a possible career! It’s officially hurricane season! 🌀This year National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicts a likely range of 8 to 14 total named storms, of which 3 to 6 could become hurricanes, including 1 to 3 major hurricanes. Ms. Martin called to thank Gas Systems Crew Leader II Butch Mills and Gas Systems Technicians Stephen Roebuck (not pictured), Ramsey Covington, Justin Oakes, Mickey Dawson, Briley Sutton, and Blake Beddard for providing outstanding customer service while repairing a gas leak at her home. Join us behind the scenes with our overhead construction electric crews. This is where precision meets teamwork high above the ground and on the ground. These crews maintain over 1,236 miles of distribution lines and 80 miles of transmission wire. A day in the life of these crews involves: 🔹 Preparing work sites, which can take hours or days. 🔹 Working from bucket trucks, elevated high above the roadway. 🔹 Insulating lines with lots of bright orange blankets – safety first! 🔹 Installing new poles. 🔹 Replacing old poles. 🔹 Working in tandem to bring wires down for pole replacements. 🔹 Supporting major projects, many of which span for miles. 🔹 Working with contractors on occasion as needed (like traffic control). 🔹 Preventing outages with slow, controlled, and safety-focused teamwork. 🚧 TRAFFIC ALERT - The Southbound lanes of Charles Boulevard are closed at Oglesby Drive (across from the ECU Baseball stadium and next to the Belk Building). Our GUC crews are repairing a broken water line and hope to have the repairs made and the Southbound lanes reopened by 9 p.m. If you’re trying to drive southbound on Charles St. from 14th Street to Greenville Boulevard, please choose an alternate route. Congrats to all the teams from across North Carolina on a job well done late last week at the #NCAMES Lineman’s Rodeo in Hickory! We’re especially proud of our GUC team for their hard work and dedication (and some hardware to boot 🏆). Our Journeyman team was Jordan Lang, Carter Gaskins, and Cole Hartley. The Apprentice team included Jordan Bradshaw, Gustavo Smith, Holden Stotesbury, Hunter Sparks, Davis Wynne, Tyler Bradshaw, Chandler Fornes, Jacob Johnson, Kolton Stotesbury, and Garrett Ward. And our team coaches were Jason Gaskins, Joey Dash, and David Guy. In the Apprentice division, Jordan took 1st place overall, 2nd place in lightning arrester changeout, and 2nd in hurtman rescue. Hunter took 1st in transformer load switch, while Kolton placed 2nd. Hunter also placed 3rd overall.
