💧 Behind the Scenes: Wastewater Treatment Plant Operators 💧 Our Wastewater Treatment Plant never stops, and neither do the people who keep it running. Today, go with us behind the scenes of one of the teams working around the clock . . . our Operators. Here is a highlight of what their workdays (and nights) are like: 🔹 Monitor 46 pump stations across the city and county 🔹 Help manage an average of 11.2 million gallons of wastewater every day 🔹 Work 12-hour shifts, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year 🔹 Conduct visual inspections of the entire plant every 4 hours 🔹 Respond to heavy rain events, storms, and system emergencies From monitoring SCADA systems to protecting our waterways, Operators serve as the eyes and ears of the plant. ⚡Join us behind the scenes of GUC's Control Room, where an enthusiastic team works 24/7/365 to keep essential services running safely and reliably for our community by . . . • Monitoring electric lines and substations. • Helping the Gas Department manage gas mains and service pipelines. • Assisting Water Resources staff with water and sewer lines. • Handling after-hours customer calls and dispatching crews when issues arise. • Coordinating responses to outages, maintenance, emergencies, and service requests. • Receiving anywhere from ~50 calls on a calm day to ~400 calls during major events. • Lowering substation voltage during peak hours to reduce system-wide energy use. ⚡Our Control Room Operators are always ready to respond, day or night.
