Community Solar is solar energy that is generated from one location and shared by multiple subscribers. This allows subscribers to get the benefits of solar without having to install their own rooftop or ground panels.

GUC is the second public utility in North Carolina to run a community solar program, which will give our electric residential customers the option to subscribe to up to five solar panels and receive credits on their utility bills.
Community Solar allows for equal access to solar energy generation regardless of our customers’ housing situations (rent, own, roof space, location, etc.).
Customer interest in renewable energy for GUC’s service area continues to grow. In our 2024 customer satisfaction survey, 53% of our customers said they wanted to help reduce carbon emissions and would be willing to pay up to $5 more each month.
Provides access to solar for customers who cannot or may not want to install rooftop solar. Community solar offers a valuable service to customers who are seeking renewable power but lack the financial means to buy or lease rooftop solar panels, have rooftops on which they cannot install solar panels, or may be renters. If you are a residential electric customer, you have access to community solar.
By subscribing, you are investing in projects right here in Pitt County. It’s important to us to have affordable and accessible carbon-reducing solar access for all community members.
You have the choice to subscribe to up to five (5) panels. This option allows you to decide how community solar best fits into your budget.
