As the Tar River and surrounding creeks continue to rise, we want to remind customers that we have redundant electric, water, sewer, and natural gas systems that should withstand any flooding that is expected over the next few days.
As of this morning, GUC crews have almost completed the restoration efforts from Hurricane Matthew. Only a handful of customers who either need an electrician to come in, or who we could not get to due to flooding, remain without power. Water is now under one of our point of delivery (POD) electric substations, which is operating as it was designed to, and should continue to provide power throughout the flood. Our second POD substation is in a location that should not take on any flood water.
We are aware that many of the counties around us have issued boil water notices. Greenville Utilities does not currently have a boil water notice and does not anticipate having any issues with drinking water throughout the flood event.
