Greenville Utilities has a service called GUC Alert, which is a web-based mass notification system, much like a reverse 911. The system allows GUC to send personalized voice messages, text messages and emails to customers about emergencies or time-sensitive account information.  

Customers do not need to sign up for this service. GUC will send voice messages to the primary phone number listed with the account. GUC requests that customers confirm that the correct information is on file by logging into their account (click here) or calling 252-752-7166.

What is GUC Alert?
GUC Alert is a new tool in GUC’s communications tool box. It’s a web-based mass notification system, much like a reverse 911. The system allows GUC to send personalized voice messages, text messages and emails to customers about emergencies or time-sensitive account information. 

How Will GUC Alert Be Used?
We will use it for a variety of purposes including communicating about major outages/service emergencies, storm response updates, water quality issues (boil water notices), gas emergencies, wastewater emergencies, routine maintenance projects, etc. Customer Relations staff will use it to notify customers regarding non-payment issues, as well as to confirm service appointments.

Do I Need to Sign Up for GUC Alert?
Customers do not need to sign up for this service. GUC will send voice messages to the primary phone number listed with the account. 

My Phone Number Has a Non-Local Area Code. Is That A Problem?
Not a problem. The area code does not impact the system.

What Precautions Are Being Taken To Protect Personal Information?
We take security and privacy concerns very seriously and will not sell, trade, lease or loan any data about our customers.

I Received A Call, But Couldn’t Listen To The Entire Message. Is There A Way To Repeat It?
Yes. At the end of the message, simply redial the number to hear the message again.
